Janome America is a distributor of household and computerized sewing machines; a subsidiary of Janome Sewing Machine Company, Tokyo, Japan, who are one of the world’s largest manufacturers of home sewing machines and leaders and innovators in the home sewing industry. Janome currently has a full-time opening at its corporate headquarters in Mahwah, NJ for a an Educational Coordinator in the Education department.
Summary:
The In-House Educational Coordinator is responsible for promoting Janome/Elna/Artistic products to consumers and dealers through educational and marketing initiatives in order to generate enthusiasm for and sales of the Janome product line.
Develop education, marketing, and sales video content, along with other social media content as assigned. Assist in developing educational and training programs to consumer groups that will be presented at dealer’s stores, sewing and company events, as well as to authorized dealers at industry shows.
Provide sewing samples for educational events, company booth, Janome’s website, social media, and other publications as well as video production and live shows.Organize and manage scheduling for dealer events and coordinate assets needed for events. Assist in tracking Education on-loan programs, training new dealers, supporting quilt show classrooms, and other related assignments.
Responsibilities may also include editing sewing related documents & instructions, designing sewn projects and samples; writing instructions and tutorials; recommending projects for the social media and website.
Essential Job Functions:
- Writing and editing sewing instructions
- Writing scripts and acting as on-screen talent in education and marketing videos
- Writing and editing instructions on machine and accessory use
- Assist in creation of social media reels and posts
- Coordinate and schedule samples and projects for use on website, in brochures, and other company collateral
- Create original samples, as well as embroidery designs, for use in videos, shows, and on social channels.
- Create, develop and edit programs for the Education Department.
- Administer and manage car stock
- Schedule and organize dealer events
- Some heavy lifting required up to 70 pounds
- Position should include approximately 25% social media and video work, 75% education responsibilities
- Business Travel is generally not required with the exception of supporting 1-2 trade shows per year offsite.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Above average knowledge of all types of sewing and sewing machines especially Janome brand is required as well as a familiarity of industry trends
- A knowledge of computers that is pertinent to the functioning of computer connected company products/software and for developing training materials and customer support
- Ability to develop and present demonstrations, sales and sewing technique classes for events in dealer’s stores, dealer staff training, sewing-related shows or Janome Institute, with specific attention given to long arm machines, as well as for mass marketing, including video production and live show taping
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare training material for consumer / dealer / staff in written form, or designed for website, etc.
- Create original projects and provide written instruction for sewing samples. Written instructions must follow the Janome Style Guide. Once the project and expenses are submitted, these become property of Janome.
- Create projects for display and use in educational events, Janome Booths, and other company functions. Once the project and expenses are submitted, these become property of Janome.
- Create educational reels and other videos as assigned. Once the project and expenses are submitted, these become property of Janome.
- Assist with set up and tear down at all assigned events, including in-house education trainings and meetings.
- Support Customer Service / Relations issues as needed.
- Respond to intense consumer / dealer questions via email or telephone.
- Submit expenses, travel itineraries, activity reports and schedules in a timely manner.
- Submit Educator Activity Reports for education, promotional and sales events in a timely manner.
- Check email and voice mail messages daily.
- Participate in Janome Institute or Regional trainings as a teacher and / or helper.
- Any other tasks assigned by supervisor.
