Pros

Comparatively high pay. Low stress environment. Friendly colleagues. While the interview is hard, once inside, it takes very little to shine.

Kontras

No meaningful data science or machine learning work to do. Important projects are outsourced to consultancies and you are left to clean the mess they leave behind. Decision making for the provision of ML solutions is done by MBA graduates, not technical experts. Dysfunctional processes within the AI space and a lack of clear direction. It seemed as if hey are trying to "ride the AI/ML wave" without high-level management personnel who understands what this entails. Some of the core AI leadership at the top does not know how to code, nor do they have a basic understanding of the systems and procedures that feed into data science solutions.. Most forums for technical dissemination within the wider group are reserved for discussions of basic statistical concepts. Poor communication, inefficient security systems in place, no data sharing infrastructure, lack of engineering support.

Pros

I imagine this is very dependent on line management but I find my team and supervisors to be true champions of a high performing and highly compassionate work culture. I find my work challenging and rewarding, and have had opportunities to learn and grow and be rewarded and recognized for my output. No job is perfect but I’m truly happy to work here and at a time when AZ is truly rising like a rocket.

Like any massive global corporate entity, things can sometimes move slowly and it can be challenging to navigate a high number of constantly evolving priorities and initiatives. That being said, AZ is very clear about its north stars and values which makes it possible to prioritize work that has the most impact and alignment with the company’s ambition and business prerogatives. 60% office attendance policy is also a bit funny when oftentimes I am on Teams calls with colleagues sitting in other areas of the world.
