Pros
I learned a lot during my time at vmware. Many very smart engineers with very high standards in coding and designs. You'll work hard and your work will be critiqued closely, don't take it personally and in the end the code is solid. Some nice things about vmware include the flexibility of work, including working from home, remotely, leave to run errands, etc. The benefits can be generous depending on your manager.
Kontras
Job titles play way too much of a role at vmware. This may be because its _so_ dang hard to get promoted so once you are finally promoted to a coveted title, the label is looked on as one of utmost importance. There is definitely a hierarchy of engineers here. If you like that, especially if you're at the top, this is the place for you. If you don't have that title, expect to work hard and receive little recognition. If you do finally receive a promotion, the focus turns to justifying why you should hold on to it instead of creating results.
