Good opportunities for those coming from outside and great products. Typically has high growth and shares success w/employees. VMware is a large, impersonal company that has much to offer, but needs strength of leadership and management to establish a better culture remotely and give more potential to build a career path for employees. There is little development of employees even though they have tried to recognize the need over the past year in small, ineffective ways. It is a cultural shift that will have to take place to make real change. Remote employees are usually very isolated. Unfortunately, the layoff of 900 individuals on 1/31/2013 was an enormous shock for those outside of corporate. Instead of transitioning employees or offering other roles first before laying people off, those let go were told that VMware would be reshaping roles and would have 1000 new jobs announced in early 2013 that these employees should apply for. It seems that if this had been less of a knee-jerk reaction and more of a well-thought out shift, they could've prevented job loss, kept higher morale and current employees would not be drowning with work due to less headcount and absorbing the jobs of others. Work/life balance is suffering now for remaining employees as a result.
