Pros
better pay than bottom of the barrel. Better pay than any other shipping company actually.
Kontras
If you go into management you get screwed over left and right and down the middle and crossways. People get hired off the street, unprofessional people to fill bad dead-end truck loading jobs. These are the same people who wind up becoming your manager and division manager. These people, bless their hearts, are given impossible tasks to complete while critical staff and tools are witheld from their use. It is from this point that these people DO NOT CARE about any part time package center supervisor in the driver centers. They themselves are abused and do not care about your welfare because they have nothing left for themselves. If you don't hold your manager accountable you will get 1/2% raise. If you don't talk to your manager about what HE THINKS how you are doing on your job you will get screwed for an entire year with a 1% raise which is very bad in an economy where all the prices you pay for things for yourself goes up at about 3% per year. TIP: IF YOUR MANAGER RATES YOU AS "NEEDS IMPROVMENT" HR AUTOMATICALLY ASSIGNS YOU 1% RAISE FOR THE YEAR. now since you work as a team sometimes someone else screws up and the blame gets assigned to you. You have to catch that stuff immediately and go over it with your manager. Do not go over it with your full-time supervisor, they don't care or won't communicate it usually to the manager. Something to think about: UPS cannot compete with companies like amazon or cheaper shippers. They all just pay a lot less to their employees. They don't offer benefits, paid vacation, 401k matching, etc.The result is UPS is always trying to squeeze out the workers and go full automation in the hubs to cut costs and compete. Automation is currently ramping up and workers getting layed off by the droves.
