📅 20th June 2024 was UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency’s World Refugee Day, when we pay tribute to those who have been forced to flee. UNHCR is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees. It leads on international action to protect refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people. Our Chief People Officer, Juliet Thomson recently travelled to UNHCR’s headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, to discuss how Menzies can build on its existing commitments to refugees around the world. This comes against the backdrop of an unprecedented global refugee crisis, where 1 in 69 individuals worldwide remain forcibly displayed, rising to 117.3 million people, as a result of persecution, conflict, violence and human rights violations. 🤝 At the meeting, Juliet and the UNHCR’s Sandrine Flavier and Line Astrom established the basis for a collaborative relationship between Menzies and UNHCR. The discussion touched on how the UNHCR and Menzies can work together to reach refugees, enhance workforce integration and improve labour mobility. We join the UNHCR in recognising the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee, and remain committed to exploring opportunities to help refugees, through employment, training and support. #MenziesAviation #PeoplePassionPride #WorldRefugeeDay #RefugeeWeek #Employment #Recruitment
👋 Say hello to Carine Sanza, Human Resources Assistant based in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Today marks the start of Refugee Week, and we’re honoured to celebrate employees like Sanza, who has experienced first hand the challenges facing refugees and displaced communities around the globe. Sanza has been displaced twice, being forced to flee Kolwezi during the First Republic of the Congo Civil War before seeking asylum in South Africa some years later. After five years working in Johannesburg, Sanza returned home to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where she now resides. Having overcome significant adversity as a refugee, Sanza returned to her country with a renewed sense of purpose and resilience, fuelling her commitment to help others. She uses her role at Menzies Aviation to support and empower her female colleagues, helping them find the confidence to apply for senior roles. She has also helped establish a network that connects her colleagues with inspirational women, helping to foster an environment of growth and empowerment. 👏 Sanza recalls being nominated for a We Are Menzies award as one of her highlights of the past two years. “It was a lovely surprise to learn that I had been nominated for the Integrity award earlier this year,” Sanza recalls. “It really boosted my confidence and commitment to a career at Menzies.” We’re incredibly fortunate to have employees like Sanza at Menzies Aviation!

👋Say hello and congratulations to Katrina Rutherford, Treasury Analyst, based at our offices in Edinburgh. This month, Katrina celebrates her 40th anniversary at Menzies, having first joined the company on 25 June 1984, as part of a Youth Training Scheme. She was offered a full-time role and has since worked her way up to Treasury Analyst – something she remains very proud of. 💙 💷 As a Treasury Analyst, Katrina manages the company’s daily financial activity, assisting the Senior Treasury Manager, documenting transactions and overseeing daily banking activities. “Everyday cash management can pose all sorts of hurdles, but I relish the way in which my job still stretches and challenges me after all these years,” Katrina says. “This, combined with working with my wonderful colleagues every day, is what make life at Menzies so enjoyable.” ⚽ Away from Menzies, Katrina likes to relax and unwind by watching Hibernian F.C., a Scottish Premiership football team based in Edinburgh. “It’s not just watching the games that I love,” Katrina explains, “it’s all the socialising that goes with it too.” As Katrina celebrates 40 years at Menzies, we’d like to congratulate her on reaching such an impressive milestone. Thank you, Katrina, for your four decades of dedicated service and hard work. 🎉 #MyMenzies #MenziesAviation #PeoplePassionPride
In a new category for this year’s We Are Menzies Awards, our Dallas Fort Worth Cargo team have been recognised as our Global Sustainability winners! 🌱 📦When the volume of e-commerce cargo increased by a staggering 100% in the first two weeks of December 2023, there was a huge spike in the amount of cardboard needing to be recycled. Determined not to send recyclable material to landfill, the team reached out to the airport’s Environmental Affairs department, and the two teams worked together to ensure that the cardboard waste was kept out of landfill. The team have big sustainability plans for 2024 and are working with the airport on a project to recycle more of the used plastics arriving on flights as cargo covers to prevent wet damages. Congratulations to the team for their efforts and hard work contributing to our wider sustainability goals! 💚 Find out more about the team’s win here 👉🏼 https://lnkd.in/eMGSVTxg #MenziesAviation #PeoplePassionPride #WeAreMenziesAwards #Agility

👋 Say hello to Thomas Nielsen, Safety Officer at Copenhagen Airport (CPH). Thomas is responsible for upholding the highest safety and security standards for our operations in Copenhagen. He regularly carries out Quality Control Inspections using SMART, an exclusive app used by Menzies employees and is responsible for training his colleagues on how to use this cutting-edge tool effectively. 📱 Having visible and accessible managers throughout his nine years at Menzies has been key to fostering Thomas’s health and wellbeing, something which he prioritises. “There’s a real open-door culture at Menzies where you always have the opportunity to share your concerns or problems at any time, which has proven invaluable,” he says. “Having overcome addiction problems some years earlier, in 2018 I decided that it was time to step-up and change my unhealthy lifestyle so that I had a much greater chance of growing old with my family and for my children,” he explains. Thomas took up running and cycling and made the decision to complete the Ironman challenge before he turned 40 in 2025. This August, that’s exactly what he’ll do, cheered on by his Menzies colleagues. “I was determined to take on the Ironman challenge to show my children that you can overcome any challenge you set yourself. I’m thankful for the support my colleagues have shown me and look forward to the challenge ahead,” Thomas explained. We wish you all the very best of luck for your Ironman challenge this summer!
🎉 Congratulations to our Cargo team at Heathrow Airport (LHR), who have been awarded International Air Transport Association (IATA)’s Safety Audit of Ground Operations (ISAGO) accreditation.
