    Pros

    - Perks and benefits
    - Good pay relative to what is in the area
    - You get your own GoPro camera and has access to play with them
    - Very relaxed working environment (this can both be a Pro and a Con)
    - Excellent work/life balance

    Kontras

    - Management and leadership doesn't seem to have a good grasp on direction or priorities.
    - Politics and nepotism. Hard work is not always rewarded. Its who you know.
    - Although there are still a few employees who are hard working and brilliant, most have left and what remains are those who seem to be just coasting and not pulling in their 100% effort
    - Not much innovation going on. Feels like everything is just doing "catch up". Its also hard to be innovative when there are so many constraints in what you do.
    - Buggy software; feels like there's no emphasis in making improvements in this part of the business; instead its all about launching the coolest feature as fast as possible, or a feature that works at a minimal
    - Lack of communication between groups

    Some of these problems have been identified before with promises of change and making things better but nothing has resulted. Its the same old story and that is why many people have left. Upper management really needs to do a careful look of all the groups from top to bottom and ask yourselves how they are performing and if they are doing the right things to ensure a smooth and effective business.

    Pros

    GoPro sets the standard for work/life balance. I have taken 30+ days off this year and it hasnt been an issue. You work hard when needed and youre allowed to enjoy life. Workplace culture is a very relaxed and everyone is open to collaboration.

    Kontras

    Being too chill can be a bad thing. Everyone seems to be coasting and no one really is pushing the line. Most of the talent has left in the past year and the company is really riding the slowing momentum of 'the brand'.

    The company has not backfilled positions after the layoffs so everyone is spread super thin and isnt able to really do one or two things to their maximum potential. Everything is done to the minimum needed to get by.

    Stop listening to Nick's 'gut decisions' and use data to drive the ship.

    Pros

    GoPro's people are overall very friendly/welcoming, smart, and capable. It's a fun company to work for — great perks include a free camera every year and fun outings.

    Kontras

    Leadership has a real difficulty with just getting out of the way so teams can execute. There's a lot of lip service paid to diversity efforts and innovation, but it rings hollow in reality. Huge deficit in operational excellence means lots of things - and people - slip through the cracks.

    Pros

    There is a lot of advantages working at GoPro: dynamic company, interesting stuff to work on, the majority of people very friendly. Also access to the lasts developed devices, reduction on the store, free snack, yada yada but also 3 hours (paid) each week to go do anything (sport, music, hike, surf etc) and shoot a video with a GoPro. What a better way to know your products ?

    Kontras

    Depending on the location and the projects, it can be really depressing, frustrating and boring. For example, I don't recommend going in the Alps office, as the executives here are not at all competent. This has been shared with higher ups, but unfortunately they do not do a lot of thing to change that. That's my main deception in this company.

    Favorise sharing between teams, and locations, not everything happens in the US. And when opening new offices/buying others companies, please integrate them well and send GoPro people down here. But otherwise keep up the good work !

    Friendly culture, decent perks, excellent life-work balance.

    Kontras

    Overall, the company feels like a terminal patient. On the software/web side, attempts to resuscitate it lead to constant organizational and management changes. This prevents the company from fulfilling its promise to nurture and develop multiple apps and software products which it acquired over the recent years. As a result, whatever you build at the company will move too slowly, without receiving proper customer feedback, and more likely than not will never be delivered to end users. Working in GoPro's software division amounts to idling away your time while collecting paychecks that could be more competitive.

    GoPro was once an innovative and dynamic company that not only created a new niche in consumer electronics but, more importantly, the new medium of first-person action video available to people without prior experience of handling a camera. However, at the key post-IPO moment when the company should've focused on capitalizing on brand recognition, consumer-generated content and the incredible filmmaking talent in its production team, the leadership instead chose to shift the funding from the media projects to a doomed effort to expand its product lineup and maintain hardware sales. It seemed that Nick Woodman, who is certainly not lacking in common sense and business acumen, was just blinded by the ghost of Steve Jobs and motivated solely by a craving to be in the limelight at Apple-style launch events. Multiple bad decisions followed, resulting in the company running in a survival mode for the past couple of years, and employees progressively losing faith and distancing themselves from the company's goals.

    -Great if you love extreme sports

    -Not great if you don't love extreme sports
    -Disorganized management
    -No clear company goals
    -Poor decision making on the executive level

    -Focus on making a good product that people want, and less on surfing with your friends.
    -Put people in management positions because they're good at leading people, not because you're friends.
    -Hire outside management that understands the GoPro culture, instead of trying to fit it into a mold.

    Fresh, agile, active and free-thinking environment. Was a GREAT company pre-IPO and is still a good company now.

    Kontras

    San Mateo isn't inn SF and isn't in Silicon Valley. It's kind of outside of everything. Salaries are not competitive.

    Hidden agendas were never a thing at GoPro. Now they are a corporate objective. Be forthright with your employees.
