Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei GoPro (mehr als ein Jahr)

    Pros

There is a lot of advantages working at GoPro: dynamic company, interesting stuff to work on, the majority of people very friendly. Also access to the lasts developed devices, reduction on the store, free snack, yada yada but also 3 hours (paid) each week to go do anything (sport, music, hike, surf etc) and shoot a video with a GoPro. What a better way to know your products ?

    Kontras

Depending on the location and the projects, it can be really depressing, frustrating and boring. For example, I don't recommend going in the Alps office, as the executives here are not at all competent. This has been shared with higher ups, but unfortunately they do not do a lot of thing to change that. That's my main deception in this company.

    Rat an das Management

Favorise sharing between teams, and locations, not everything happens in the US. And when opening new offices/buying others companies, please integrate them well and send GoPro people down here. But otherwise keep up the good work !

Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei GoPro (Über 3 Jahre)

    Pros

Fresh, agile, active and free-thinking environment. Was a GREAT company pre-IPO and is still a good company now.

    Kontras

San Mateo isn't inn SF and isn't in Silicon Valley. It's kind of outside of everything. Salaries are not competitive.

    Rat an das Management

Hidden agendas were never a thing at GoPro. Now they are a corporate objective. Be forthright with your employees.

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei GoPro gearbeitet

    Pros

Location, great office buildings, TVs everywhere, some smart people, and of course the benefit of free gopro cameras as a full time employee

    Kontras

Everything that the company has launched since my short time there has failed in one way or another:
     - GoPro Plus - who wants to pay for premium storage when Google offers it for free?
    - Karma - dead when launched. Relaunched by tainted by poor reputation and barely made a dent against DJI worldwide
    - Fusion - teaser didn't drum up much enthusiasm. if launched on time at a decent price point can be a solid product (but only if)

All of projects literally got their funding slashed ever since I got there. I have experienced 3 different bosses in my less than 1 year tenure. Talk about a wild ride!

Too much of a bro culture. The MSFT presence died when Tony Bate was canned along with his lieutenants. The only ones left are mostly ex EA and ex Apple employees. Some are genuinely good, but most are clearly just collecting a paycheck until they get their shot at a pink slip and possibly a nice severance. HR has been constantly handing them out in a relentless pursue to cut costs since December of last year.

Unless something drastic happens they will end up being sold.

    Rat an das Management

Find a buyer. You can't survive in a shrinking niche space when the likes of new iphones and android phones start coming out with image stabilization and waterproofing. Those were the key features of why people bought a GoPro.

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei GoPro gearbeitet

    Pros

-Good set of people to work with
    -Competitive salary
    -Interesting work

    Kontras

-Bad leadership and no proper future plan
-Do no get tempted by the hiring calls unless you want to join a sinking ship and start looking again
-Irresponsible HR who are clueless about their jobs
-Too much of a bro culture and its full of people who come on referrals, creating mini groups of people who have worked together.
    -Lack of diversity

    Rat an das Management

    Deaf to any suggestions,no point

Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei GoPro (Über 5 Jahre)

    Pros

GoPro has a fairly young workforce. Most people are in their late twenties - thirties. Great culture. The people are really cool so it's easy to make friends. Like, actual friends, not just at-work friends. The pay is pretty decent. For being a tech company, it's probably amongst the cooler companies and jobs in my opinion.

    Kontras

From top to bottom there are operational inefficiencies. This seems to be improving more recently, but many of the big hits the company has taken can be accredited to the CEO and executive staff. Aside from that, my biggest con about GoPro is the lack of growth opportunities. Teams have been "trimmed down" so people have more responsibility, but the teams aren't growing, so you can't really move to the next level of your career (unless you're entry level).

    Rat an das Management

Nick needs less control. He needs to let the experts make the decisions for their teams. Too many decisions need to be approved by him, and this slows everything down which gives teams significantly less time to execute. Not much you can do about experienced people running into a career ceiling, but valuable and experienced people are leaving. They'll continue to leave to pursue new opportunities, as I am looking to do.

Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei GoPro (Über 3 Jahre)

    Pros

    - Could be a good place to be if you have no expectations of growing or working hard
    - Discounts on gear
    - Half days every Thursday
    - Work from home whenever you want
    - Very relaxed atmosphere (t-shirst and sandals are ok to wear in the office)
    - Lots of time off. No tracking or managing

    Kontras

    - a lot of good people came in about 2 years ago, post IPO. Many of them had great intentions but left out of frustration quickly after starting. those who are left are struggling to understand what is happening or who to follow.
    - managers, directors, VPs have never done the job they are asked to manage. Some got their position without any domain experience and are there because others in the roles left and they are in the "bro" club at the company.
    - Values and culture are a farce. So much politics. people throw each other under the bus to self promote themselves. No one really wants to help others, only themselves. Everything is a compromise to appease other teams
    - no one really works on thursday or friday so not much gets done at the back half of the week
    - meetings galore. Everything needs to be a meeting and everyone needs to be at the meeting.
    - Everything is a "process". For such a small company, it runs worse than bigger companies like Microsoft or Amazon. Even people from Amazon who joined, left because there was too much process. And the process is not there to help. it is there to control and micro manage
    - overall energy at the San Mateo and San Diego offices are horrible. entire floors are empty because people are "working from home" all the time.
    - Massive brain drain.
    - Acquisition integration is horrible. almost all those who joined through acquisition have left.

    Rat an das Management

    - decent management change in the recent months with new COO, but getting to profitability is simply not backfilling attrition, which puts more strain on those still staying.
    - stop the musical chairs with managers and executives to fill in holes when others leave and hire passionate professionals who have done all this before
    - focus on the cameras and stop on all the other stuff. software apps are not winning and only taking our focus away from what made us great.

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei GoPro gearbeitet (Über 3 Jahre)

    Pros

401K match still in effect. Large RSUs being offered to newcomers.

    Kontras

This company is LOST. Almost all talent has left the once fun company... all that is left is talk and egos. Incompetent and ineffective remain, especially in PDM/PM org. Can no longer compete in any market segment. Only thing saving the company financially is the mass exodus of key employees. Dead company walking.

    Rat an das Management

The whole management team needs to be overhauled if there is any hope of a company turn around.
