Kontras
I truly do not even know where to begin. I worked remotely in Kansas City, MO for a tax team in New York. There were no managers, and all team me members had been with the company less than 1.5 years. I started one week before tax season, given absolutely no individual training as a new college graduate, and was expected to perform at levels far exceeding my comprehension. I was given an extensive amount of funds and also one of the largest funds in all of the tax team, again, with no training. Our team's "training" sessions in Kansas City consisted of listening in on 2-5 hour phone calls in New York that everyone was expected to follow along with, whether a day old employee, or an employee with 20 years experience. It is impossible to get the same training experience from thousands of miles away as you would in person. Management refuses to admit faults and constantly blames inferiors for mistakes. Suggestions to management are unwelcome despite an unhappy demeanor from nearly all team members ("my way or the highway attitude." from management.) This job truly killed my spirits and made me lose all confidence in my intelligence and ability to perform at a high level. Questions are discouraged. If you decide to ask a question in order to better perform a task, prepare yourself for a sarcastic response intended to make you feel idiotic and a fool for not knowing the answer yourself. Also, you will get chastised for asking a coworker in Kansas City a question instead of waiting for a "manager" across the country to respond to a quick question in an email that you sent 4 hours ago. All in all, this remote team should not exist. This is NOT a job that can be done successfully from a remote location without major management making adjustments, and they will NEVER make those adjustments. This job gave me a horrible outlook on the "real world." Fortunately, the grass is certainly greener on the other side. I would not wish this job on my worst enemy. Oh, and the pay is awful. It is extremely easy to find a job that you actually enjoy with better pay. I sure did! Steer clear of this job!
