Pros

-Great name and strong diversified businesses at the Group level (even though heavily skewed to personal lines, but this is changing) -#2 player in the US surety market and #1 global surety -Strong book of business and lots of talented people in the organization -Strong training program and invests heavily in their younger talent -Decent benefits, but overly generous maternity leave (16 weeks / 4 months paid). -U.S. centric work culture and work ethics - challenging the status quo is welcomed and if there is something that is broken, management empowers people to fix it. Big on team culture - one of the best I've seen.

Kontras

-Heavy pressure to promote based on minority status at the mid-senior level (pressure is heavy to promote women and non-heterosexual). While at the executive level, it is still predominantly white, male. -Pay raise to existing employees is low, but continues to pay extreme premium to recruit people from outside. -The bonus structure favors H.O. vs. field personnel.

Kontras

Started my career at Liberty Mutual as a Workers' Compensation intern. In the beginning, everything was going well. The workload was demanding, but I genuinely enjoyed the job and the work I was doing. One year later, I got promoted to claim adjuster. Things changed after my manager was seriously injured in a car accident. The department director took over managing our team, and the work environment became completely different. She was extremely rude and practiced excessive micromanagement. She expected me not to take any PTO if my work wasn't completely finished, even when I needed time off because my grandmother had suddenly passed away. The constant pressure and lack of empathy took a serious toll on my mental health. I developed depression during that time and eventually had to seek help from a psychologist. In the end, I decided to leave Liberty Mutual. It was one of the best decisions I made for my well-being, and I would not consider returning to the company.
