Pros

This is a growing company that won't tank any time soon. The benefits are good. They cost more to the employee each year but that is the norm. Initial pay is above average and at least the first few annual raises are substantial. The profit sharing plan is good. In a year in which the goals are met or exceeded you will make at least 5% of your annual income in this form. There are ample opportunites to move up if you are willing to relocate or do whatever it takes to make yourself look good in front of the right people. Plenty of vacation days. You are able to limit your week to 37.5 hrs per week but this will probably hurt your upward mobility.

Kontras

Of course businesses exist to make money but too often it seems that short term profits are the sole or primary motive behind each business decision. FYI - 'business decision' is a term that is used by management when they had to do something that they would be ashamed of if their friends or family found out but is justified because it made the company a few extra dollars or was necessary to keep their own job. Employees interpert this as an indication that they are expendable if a decision will increase the profit to cost ratio in the least little bit. This tends to put a damper on productivity and morale since the perceived lack of loyalty of the company toward the employee results in dimished loyalty from the employee toward the company. Rewards and recognition are received if they can be quantified by an existing metric. If it can't or isn't quantified numerically, it doesn't count.

Kontras

Started my career at Liberty Mutual as a Workers' Compensation intern. In the beginning, everything was going well. The workload was demanding, but I genuinely enjoyed the job and the work I was doing. One year later, I got promoted to claim adjuster. Things changed after my manager was seriously injured in a car accident. The department director took over managing our team, and the work environment became completely different. She was extremely rude and practiced excessive micromanagement. She expected me not to take any PTO if my work wasn't completely finished, even when I needed time off because my grandmother had suddenly passed away. The constant pressure and lack of empathy took a serious toll on my mental health. I developed depression during that time and eventually had to seek help from a psychologist. In the end, I decided to leave Liberty Mutual. It was one of the best decisions I made for my well-being, and I would not consider returning to the company.
