Pros
Large scale operations provide interesting challenges. Real commitment to safety, food quality. Good basic benefits. Are trying to bring in new college grads to feed the future leadership roles, are starting to take hold in some plants. Are trying to expand value-added products to improve margins and expand markets. Have capital to invest. Have done some work to implement improvement programs. Company does take long term view some of the time.
Kontras
Old school "boot in the butt" motivational philosophy, especially in Beef BU. In-bred management & supervision, lots of lifers with no other company / industry experience, many with no college education. Weak delegation skills. Commodity products lead to tight finances, low pay, penny wise decisions. Recent droughts have made finances worse, little / no bonuses last few years. Recent improvement programs have mixed results, very spotty leadership commitment. Many/most new college grad hires leave the division or company. Grinding long work hours for many people. Low pay /immigrant workforce has very high turnover.
