      Bewerbung

Ich habe mich online beworben. Der Vorgang dauerte 2 Wochen. Vorstellungsgespräch absolviert im März 2009 bei Lockheed Martin (Fort Worth, TX)

      Vorstellungsgespräch

First I want to give a little background on myself to make the process points clearer: I was a returning adult student (I'm almost 40) who graduated with a BSEE in 2007. I went to a community college for a couple years and then transferred to a university to finish. When I transferred, my GPA was 3.8/4.0, but the university did not record that at all; my GPA on my university transcripts only shows the classes I took on campus (even online classes through the university system were not included). As such, I calculated my overall GPA (using all the classes it took to obtain my degree) which turned out to be 3.2. My university transcript, though, shows a cumulative of 2.76 due to using only on-campus classes. I applied for this position online in October 2008 with a job-specific resume and cover letter (I applied for several jobs (40+) between September 2008 and February 2009, some using job specific docs, some generic). I got a call in early February 2009 from a recruiter in Fort Worth about the job and he asked me about my interest in it and briefly went over my resume with me. He said that they wanted to do an in-person interview and that some would be contacting me shortly about that. About two weeks later another recruiter called me and requested that I send my transcripts and consent to a background check. She also scheduled me to come out on March 3rd for an interview. They had me schedule my own transportation via Travelocity for the interview. They provided airfare, hotel, and rental car and I was reimbursed for meals and my mileage to/from the airport at home(they actually wrote me a reimbursement check while I was there for the interview, and paid a per diem rate). For the interview I arrived at 8am at the Fort Worth recruiting center. A pleasant receptionist welcomed me, got some of the pre-interview paperwork I had to fill out from me, wrote me the reimbursement check, then let me know that there was some continental-style breakfast available if I was hungry. I then sat in the waiting area and there were probably 10 other folks waiting there as well. After about 10 minutes, the receptionist came over and played a video that spoike about Lockheed and its various child companies and what they produce. After that was over I waited another 20 minutes or so until the hiring manager came and took me to a small cubicle for the interview. He asked me to tell him about myself, then went over my resume and asked me to dgo into more detail about my past work experiences. He had a few "canned" questions, like "Tell me about a time when you had a project tha wasn't on schedule, and what you did to correct it". None of the questions were ones where I would have to solve some problem or show other technical skills. Then he told me about the position itself and what my responsibilities would be if I were to get the position. I was then given the opportunity to ask some questions myself. After that, he took me back to the reception area, where I met with a person from security. She asked a few questions related to my being able to get a security clearance. Then she took me back to the recption area again. After that I was supposed to meet with the recruiter, but she was in a meeting so I was sent home. About two weeks later the recruiter called about my transcripts. They were concerned because of the GPA listed on my transcript; and I spent a couple days and many phone calls getting them to understand the situation. They had to take it to the VP of HR to get it approved into the offer phase, but it did get approved. About a week and a half later they finally called and offered me the position.
