Pros
A lot of opportunities to learn more about career opportunities I was interested in. I never would’ve gotten into the career I’m in now if it wasn’t for the leadership I had at ecornell. I was able to expand my resume through “gigs” and the certificates that were offered to me as an employee. I genuinely enjoyed working with all my colleagues and keep in touch with their regularly. Prior to working at ecornell I was a job hopper never staying for longer than a year, this was the longest I ever stayed with any organization. Leaders were understanding and supportive of a strong work life balance. The benefits are really good, I enjoyed working remotely.
Kontras
Sometimes felt like an island within Cornell as a whole, remote employees sometimes felt like an afterthought.
Pros
The organization has undergone significant change over the past several years, and while that has brought challenges, leadership, including the CEO, has been transparent throughout. Teams have had to remain flexible. However, there is a strong sense of collaboration across departments to work toward the best outcomes for the organization. One of the most valuable benefits as an employee is access to eCornell certificate programs. This has allowed me to pursue professional development opportunities that would have otherwise been financially out of reach in my previous role. Many team members, including leadership, actively engage in continuous learning, which helps foster a culture of growth and development. I have also felt genuinely supported by leadership and colleagues. Shortly after starting, I experienced a significant medical challenge, and the level of flexibility, understanding, and kindness I received was meaningful and not something I’ve experienced at all organizations. The enrollment team, while geographically distributed across the United States, is made up of caring, dedicated professionals who are committed to their work, supporting one another, and supporting our students.
Kontras
I think this is a common challenge for larger organizations, and especially those that are fully remote. Communication across teams can be inconsistent at times, and processes could be more streamlined to improve efficient. When changes are recommended, helping resisters move forward can also be challenging. This said, the challenge is recognized and I see departments actively working to address this.
