Pros

Growing company with lots of potential. A great set of people who can mentor and support you as you get started. As is typical of small companies a relatively flat organization with no barriers to access key people.

Kontras

Could dedicate more time to new employee training, one on one mentorship works well only if the mentor can dedicate their time with you.

There is no clear or structured plan in this company. Hiring is done periodically based on the personal preferences of the current manager, rather than through a transparent or needs-based process. Long-standing team members, who have been there for years, resist any attempts by newcomers to improve or modernize the codebase. They possess limited technical knowledge and are primarily motivated by fear—fear of losing their product and their small customer base. They lack understanding of basic software engineering principles, and there is no unified vision; everyone tries to push their own opinions instead of collaborating effectively. The product was originally developed years ago by now-retired developers, and its architecture is so outdated that making meaningful changes is practically impossible. Eventually, due to frequent management changes and ongoing financial crises, new employees are often laid off. This results in a total loss of the investment made in onboarding and training, while the rest of the team remains in a constant state of uncertainty. The company operates with a very small team that initially appears polite and friendly. However, over time, gossip and even shouting by some team members begin to surface. Behind the scenes, individuals may act in highly unprofessional ways to pursue their own goals—sometimes at the expense of others. The current leadership, including both the general and technical managers, lack sufficient knowledge in their respective areas. They often listen to internal gossip and make inconsistent and conflicting decisions. They even go as far as to contradict their own words and promises. In the end, you will neither learn anything new nor achieve professional growth in this environment.
