Pros
As someone who has worked in a pretty traditional Japanese company before, I really enjoy working in White Rabbit Japan! Unlike my experience working in the Japanese company, (or what I heard happened in most Japanese companies), where people are expected to just follow what their boss wants and what the manual says, can't really put out their ideas on the open, (basically being micro-managed), in White Rabbit I am able to: - Have a sense of responsibility and can really think for myself. On my first day of work, I was kinda surprised that I was allowed to reply to customers immediately! I don't need to confirm everything I need to do to my superior and I have the freedom to do what I think is right and you need to own your decision. It's perfect for me who doesn't like having someone to always tell you what to do. If you feel in a need of help, however, of course, it's OK to consult with the senior, but you are always encouraged to chime in your opinion and what you think first before asking someone else's opinion. - have a better work-life balance overall since we are not really expected to do over-time. I also love the flexibility where we're not expected to come to the office every day or even come at a very specific time at all as long as you do your job right. - have a good career opportunities. I was hired as a Customer Support but was later promoted to be a Manager for the sister company of White Rabbit. The CEO often promotes people from inside the company, so you have more chance to prove yourself here. - basically improve myself a lot! I could learn directly from the CEO and all the excellent upper management people, where I can learn first-hand about their experience, their thoughts, about product development and the reason why the product is created that way, etc, which are all a priceless knowledge! We can learn so much things that’s not listed in our job role, this really results in a more rewarding feeling in your job, as you feel contributing and that what you're doing is adding value to the company. Additionally, more pros working in this company are: - The culture to give feedback. The team is encouraged to speak directly, and to give their opinion to anyone in the team , whether if it’s the CEO, or collaborating with the Engineer team, etc. - Great and friendly co-workers from many different countries. I really like working in a multicultural company where I can use both languages (English and Japanese). - Freedom to wear anything. You are also free to dye your hair and do your nails which are a great plus for women!!! - The company really cares about the efficiency and effectivity of your work as we were introduced to great productivity tools. It’s really exciting to discover and learn all these different tools! One of my favorites among many is pastebot! I even installed and use it on my own Personal Computer too. More perks/benefit: - The company will provide you with all the right tools and equipment for you to work on, and even office supplies of your needs. - There’s a personal development benefit (yearly), and a monthly fitness and mental health benefit that you can reimburse monthly!
Kontras
- As a start-up company, the company is growing so fast, so we will need to be quick and really adapt ourselves to the growth. It's expected to already work on a project and then finds it abandoned/postponed due to a change in priority. And sometimes, things might get confusing as there are many rules/stuff that's not clear or decided yet. - Less staff, so people are expected to work and help outside of their own job role too. On one side, it's good as we can learn many things and it's a chance to grow ourselves too, but sometimes it might get overwhelming. - No fixed bonuses like in Japanese companies where we usually get bonuses two times a year (summer and winter). There's a performance-based bonus tho! So if you're doing good, the company will surely appreciate your hard work!
