Pros
The agency provides solid support overall. Management is present on-site and stays involved, which makes a difference in day-to-day work. They understand the realities of working in a correctional setting and set expectations that are realistic, with clear and consistent communication. In my role as a Discharge Planner, I feel trusted to use my judgment when working with clients. There’s flexibility to engage with individuals and collaborate with community resources, which helps create more meaningful and realistic discharge plans. You’re not just checking boxes—you’re actually able to advocate for clients and connect them to services that can make a difference once they leave custody. The environment encourages teamwork and problem-solving, and while the work can be challenging at times, there’s a good balance of support and independence that allows you to grow in the role.
Kontras
Growth is correlated to educational advancement. Not a CONs. in general, is a good company to work for,
Pros
Pay is high for associate positions. Clinical supervision was good. I also worked with some excellent clinicians, awesome nurses/doctors, and a great psychiatrist. Lots of exposure to high-acuity clients for early-career clinicians. A great place to hone clinical skills such as risk assessment, diagnosis, crisis management, multidisciplinary case management, psychopharmacology, and milieu management. No better place than jails to get exposure to working hands-on with personality disorders, psychosis, mania, etc...
Kontras
This is a correctional setting without minimal management support & engagement, and unclear expectations. Management plays favorites and struggles to regulate themselves emotionally, leading to inappropriate behavior. Lack of feedback. Management lacks a spine and will neither set boundaries with custody staff nor have your back. Management will gladly throw you under the bus. No long-term career opportunities. No standardized training of new staff. Management only shows up when compliance audits are due, and then they will blame staff for not meeting their uncommunicated expectations. Fast staff burnout and turnover.
