Pros

Walgreens used to be a very good company to work for, cared about work/life balance, provided great growth opportunity. I worked there for 9 years and was promoted 3 times. Had good benefits and profit sharing, once in a while would offer free stock options to Store Manager and higher ups.

Kontras

Recent merger with Boots changed the moral of the company. It's now focused on making profit only, doesn't care about it's employees anymore. Major restructure eliminated thousands of jobs and forced people to take demotions just to avoid layoff news which would effect the stock. Leadership picked and choose whom to give promotions just based on face value, most of the newly promoted DMs doesn't even qualify for the position. Even let go all senior executives who were the backbone of this company and brought all British people to fill those position. It seems like Boots bought Walgreens, not the other way as released to press.

Pros

Can be a fun environment. All in whom your staff is. Operating photo was fun and building projects for the customers. Learning about pharmacy operations.

Kontras

Work life balance and low pay for what is expected. Not having enough payroll to effectively run a store. My store ran FE on a 320 hour a week budget. That was barely enough to get buy and meet the expectations put out by the company. I was never able to keep a full leadership staff. When a leader called out, I had to stay. There were days I was called away from my own dinner table. SM's were forced to be in the pharmacy for more than half of their day regardless as to what is happening in the FE. I worked over 50 hours a week and barely got to spend time with my family. If I wasn't at the store I was getting a phone call and having to go back to the store.
