      - Low monetary compensation - “Comprehensive fees” are paid out of pocket by student, not the administration - Ineffectual administration - Low appreciation for diversity - No retirement benefits for students - Right-to-Work state: not as well unionized as graduate student organizations in other states

      Pros

      The experience was great. The PI was amazing and kind and I learned a lot, definitely would do it again. It yielded great results for me such as publication. I recommend for medical school or graduate school.

      Difficult to justify if you don’t plan to have a research career, graduate or professional school because the pay is lower than other positions available in Blacksburg.
