Pros
Coworkers were pleasant. Customers were appreciative.
Kontras
Their motto should be "It's complicated -- and we like it that way!"
Antiquated technology. Staff regularly sees messages at start-up that their computer's operating system may be illegal because it is so old and out of support by its internationally well-known creator. Any system issues are handled with a temporary fix because the new system is "being launched this year." (That line has been repeated at every year-end celebration since 2018.)
The software that is sold to customers was written more than 20 years ago and it shows. It was created by one of the owners, who is a self-taught programmer. The amateur status is reflected by the system's outdated design and poor organizational structures.
The company's response to Covid was to remain open and fully staffed, but suspend the janitorial service for several months. Instead, they handed out cans of disinfectant spray to each department. When cleaning service was resumed, it was on a monthly schedule for a team of 16 people.
Seasoned staff are reluctant to speak out on even the most mundane of issues. Any commentary is prefaced with "Well, in my opinion..." This made it difficult to know how to effectively navigate the corporate structure and get things done . Most ideas were quelled with "This is a [owner's name] issue," and it was assumed that he would not take any action.
I was hired as a manager, but was prevented from taking any kind of action to improve the customer's experience. We were cautioned against selling too much product because the company would be forced to purchase more inventory.
CEO had nothing good to say about former employees.
