Pros

Positive reviews and guidance. Autonomy for those who are experienced and understand their market. Allow you to work at your own schedule and pace while always being there to guide and discuss project complications. Overall great experience at Usg, although I started with the company in a more seasoned role, I do believe it would be a great company to work for right out of college. I know that several employees have been here 30+ years and started right out of college. Good opportunity for growth and movement around the company if you’re able to do that.

Kontras

Depending which division you work with or for there could be limitations of product availability. We find that sampling can be a major issue with this particular manufacturer, which can hinder architectural Wins. Very heavy salesforce interaction with micromanaging how much time you spend in salesforce. New implementation of commercial excellence starting in 2026 so we will see how this is a positive or a negative to the workflow this year. They tend to put managers in place with no valid experience. We find this to be difficult to work around when they put in place requirements they make no sense due to their lack of experience.

Recent change at CEO - not sure how he's going to be, but he was mentored by old old CEO and that guy was amazing!

Pros

Easy work, If you like just going through the motions this place has you covered

Kontras

My perspective is coming from a desk role and not someone out on the floor. With that said, I did not enjoy my time working for this corporation. They farm out the majority of their work. Which in turn has caused quite a few clueless people to end up in manager roles. It doesn't help that there are some older people working in this department who don't want to change with the times. Which means you constantly have to update 2D drawings to add viewpoints simply due to someone not wanting to learn or use 3D software. If you have a few years of experience under your belt I would avoid this place simply due to the lack of growth you will experience. You end up feeling like a glorified secretary because it all feels like meaningless paperwork and emails. Even for the project engineers which mostly just bring in outside contractors to repair and mainting the facility. They really push safety but in my view it's to their own hindrance. They focus so strongly on it that at a certain point it just becomes mumble jumble. They make it a certain safety issue a main highlight. Then come up with some terrible new piece of equipment to implement that will end up not being used the majority of time. If you want to actually learn about manufacturing and grow your skill set. Avoid this place. But if you want an easy job without any challenges you would love it there.
