Pros
They have an exceptionally strong staff team. You will be among some of the brightest minds and most caring people you've ever met.
Kontras
Bringing your 'whole self,' aka all your private personal information, into the workplace is a requirement. They use careful, well-refined manipulation tactics and peer pressure to break down your personal boundaries to get you to buy into their model. They push you into sharing sensitive personal info, like your medical, mental health, and family situation, and then they use it against you. The volunteer management team is unacceptably abusive to the operations team, causing catastrophic turnover (~200%) of the operations team in a matter of 2 years. Following that lead, volunteers speak to staff in a way I wouldn't speak to my worst enemy. I've worked in many difficult customer service environments, including emotionally fraught ones where customers made me cry, and I've never seen anything to compare to the vitriol with which Thread volunteers talk to staff. That's what ultimately made me quit. But even aside from that, it's a very stressful work environment. Multiple employees had to take medical leave for nervous breakdowns and there was no management response.
