Pros
The Container Store has an intense interview process. The first interview round was with a group and out of 15 people, I was the only one chosen to move forward. You're asked to role play and sell hangers or capture customers empty-handed as they are walking out the door. I believe I was able to move forward because I reiterated what they were all about from their website. I studied their website in depth, even watched their miscellaneous talks. By the time that interview rolled around, I was prepared and sounded like the smartest candidate there. In the end of the group interview, they asked for a word that describes what you'll contribute to the store. I said COMPASSION. You welcome. Of course the markup of products at TCS is super pricy, which is why you get a 40%. It does help, especially for items that are fairly priced to begin with. TCS hires people with a certain personality. You have to be CULTishly kind. Thus, your colleagues are pretty cool people. Keep in mind, you have to get lucky because sometimes your cohort will have nasty apples, but this is inevitable.
Kontras
They don't believe in unions, and if you're one for social justice and equality, TCS unfortunately doesn't care. They pride themselves on paying their staff $12 because you'll be doing the job of 4 people. You have to clean the bathroom, which stinks, but hey, you're getting paid $12 an hour instead of $8, so be thankful is the mentality.
