Pros

Terracon is a VERY well run business. Management cares about the well-being of employees and helping them do their jobs safely every day. Beyond safety, the company provides excellent benefits and a retirement plan (401k/ESOP) designed to help everyone reach retirement with a nest egg. I came from a larger firm and found Terracon's management refreshing--it is focused on employees and our clients; not stock holders, banks, and executive compensation. Specifically, Terracon is great because it: Provides and encourages the use of safety equipment/PPE--no questions asked and no push back regardless of cost Provides vehicles and the tools needed to do our work--no questions asked and no push back Provides good workspace for employees--no "open" concepts in a sea of desks; real offices and cubes with walls Provides excellent support services from its home office in Olathe with cheerful staff Provides educational opportunities and training necessary to grow Provides freedom to pursue clients and do business locally without excessive overhead

Kontras

IT could be a lot better, but then I can't think of anyone with a solid IT department anymore.

Pros

You have sustainable hours for construction but there is mandatory overtime (The most I’ve done is 51 hours in a week), they pay you enough to live on, it’s good experience, upper management pays lip service to workers rights, there is genuine concern and regulation from management to provide you an emotionally and physically safe place to work, you’re never really rushed to do your job, and you do have the right to stop work

Kontras

You need a degree in engineering or geology to move up and you have to threaten to move offices or take another job to get a pay raise. It’s not unionized.
