Pros

Good pay and some benefits (but not many). Stepan is a diverse company with plants thru out the world and many different products. Almost always makes quarterly profits.

Kontras

Stepan upper management thinks with their wallets not their brains. This locations (Millsdale) upper management has only profit on their minds, they treat the employees like dirt, lie to higher ups and blame all troubles on the workers. A person use to be able to use their brains at Millsdale and actually operate; now they are scared to do anything without getting permission from the upper management for fear of being disciplined. This causes more wastage and bad product being made due to waiting for upper management to tell a worker what to do, when management has never ran the process. This atmosphere has cause many older employees to retire early, quit or be fired and leaves new people training new people on jobs that neither of them understand. Plus the company has cut back on the actual work force (while adding extensively to management) to the point the workers are forced to hurry and work excessive hours to maintain product to fill orders. The equipment at this plant is old the employees are under trained and over worked and this could cause a problem that will cost the company more money than they saving.

Pros

Great environment to learn and develop for future roles at better opportunities.

Kontras

No vertical advancement, terrible annual pay increases that do not keep up with inflation. Job scope stretched well beyond what was originally expected and pay increases did not keep up at all. My advice would be go into this job with a strategy to learn as much as you can and then exit for something better paying after 1-3 years.
