Pros

I'm admittedly pretty biased, but this is a great small company to work for. We aim to provide reasonable benefits to employees and grow the offerings every year as we grow. We are a flexible workplace that offers remote working opportunities and don't have a cap vacation. We have transparent discussions with our team every week on the direction of the business. We have monthly team lunches where team members take turns leading a discussion on a topic they're passionate about (from Excel to yoga). We have regular team outings and volunteer opportunities to give back. However, the biggest pro is our work. Helping people with their finances is so powerful and meaningful, even if you're not on the "frontline" as a coach. The stories of impact we have on people's lives is truly incredible.

1) Career planning: Because of our current size, we don't have a lot of clearly defined career paths. If you're a ladder climber, SmartPath likely isn't the right fit for you right now. As we grow, that will likely change, but for now, you need to be a self-starter that has a strong entrepreneurial bent. If you want to wear multiple hats and learn by doing, you'd love it here. 2) Open office: the majority of our team sits in an open desk layout in 2 long tables. This is great for team relationships, but detrimental to productivity when you need to put your head down. To address this short term, employees are encouraged to work from home as needed. Long term, we will continue to evaluate better furniture and layout of our office to support the evolving direction of the business.

- Great technology: I have the tools and resources I need to coach well. Our product & development team consistently improves our internal (and client-facing tech). They create time-saving efficiencies for both coaches and clients. - My Team: every coach is intelligent, seasoned and brings a unique skill set/specialty to our group. I leverage other coaches' knowledge (i.e. student loans, home buying, military benefits) to give accurate and great advice to my clients. - My Manager: bi-weekly 1on1 sessions help me develop / hone my skills. He gives me honest and actionable feedback. Much like our CEO, Alok, he makes himself available when needed and has a genuine desire to help his team grow, personally and professionally. - Learning and Development Opportunities: the possibilities to grow your career here are endless, you just have to ask and put in the work. I've been trained on speaking, powerpoint design, excel, public loan forgiveness and various technologies. - Leadership Team: passionate, direct, yet approachable. - The Nature of the Job: I don't have to "sell" anything when I get on the phone with a client, I just have to listen. I love our consultative, non-sales approach to giving financial advice, and our clients do too. It's a win-win. - Other: work from home days (2 days / week), monthly team lunches/fun events, learning library, compassionate, fun team!

Kontras

SmartPath is a start-up, so processes, reports and initiatives change often, for the benefit of the client. The constant "pivots" as we like to call them, can be mentally taxing and often lends itself to longer (but worthwhile) work weeks.
