Pros
- casual work environment - good coworkers - beer in Friday afternoon meetings - reasonable compensation Overall there's a lot of benefits to working at Smart Data. The work environment and people you work with are both pretty great. There's no dress code, and the atmosphere is pretty casual and relaxed. They're pretty flexible about working from home and the PTO policy is nice.
Kontras
- very high job stress - lack of recognition - not much opportunity for real development work The reason I left this job is a combination of the above factors. It's a very stressful position that requires you to manage the conflicting priorities of up to 30 different clients, maintain a 24-hour response time, and troubleshoot problems all of which need to get fixed yesterday. Also, I felt that when I was hired I was not made fully aware of how much customer support versus technical, development/design work I'd be doing. The job is more of a support technician position than a software developer position. They say that you'll be transitioned into more of a development role but I worked there for a year without taking on any significant projects. Also, don't expect to be given too much recognition for the work you're doing (which is critical to SDS's day-to-day operations). You will, however, be responsible for any mistakes you make.
