Old school researchers and incompetent management. They had no idea of what to do and what research and innovation means. Impression was that Royal Philips took out the worst employees. In a following restructuring the majority of them was laid off indeed.

Silo-strategy, with departments and sectors setup as segregated, causes reactionary decision making rather than smart proactive progression in improvement initiative buy-in. Inter-departmental LEAN thinking can be challenging.
