Pros
Relatively Easy work Company supplied housing within walking distance from work
Kontras
Abusive/entitled customers Long hours (often 9+ hours alone in the shoulder periods) Housing will be very cramped unless you come with a partner, but even then you'll barely have enough space to eat at a table each night. Hardly worth the 500+ dollars a month per person Pay is good in a vacuum, but given the island prices for groceries and using the ferry if you want to visit the mainland/canada you'll find it hard to break even. (Had a customer tell me to stop buying salmon and instead buy tuna, but I couldn't even afford beef or chicken) Huge amount of gossip, office politics, and attempted peer-pressure, especially among low level staff (fuel dock, dock-hands, dock maintenance) basically anyone walking the docks in uniform during the day.
