Pros

Beautiful office with great views, casual day every day and the attorneys are all very pleasant.

Kontras

Your salary is the bare minimum. There are no perks. There is no supplement for transit or parking. The office never closes early, even before Thanksgiving or NYE. For Christmas you get a box of chocolates and $25 gift card to Old Chicago, and if you're lucky, maybe a gift from your attorney. Staff has to clock in and out and you are required to work exactly 40 hours or you get a nasty gram. Say goodbye to those Friday afternoons when your boss let you go early! They are too cheap to get bagels once a week. The paralegal "bonus program" gets you $10 at Starbucks if you bill 120 hours a month. The staff is constantly overworked and chronically underpaid. Overtime is a place they've never heard of. You aren't allowed to come into the office after hours or on weekends to make up time. They laid off more people in one year than I saw in eight years at another firm. Management works solely for the shareholders, so if you have a problem with something, keep it to yourself. Really this is one of the most dismal offices I've worked at. These people couldn't care less about you, they care only about themselves. It's purely a machine, and you are totally replaceable.

Pros

Staff is generally nice; some attorneys are somewhat easy to work with.

Kontras

Where does one start? Let's start with management (::::crickets chirping). "Management" breeds and fosters division amongst the staff. Low pay, low morale and a professional wasteland! Some of the partners (mostly female) are the textbook definition of female attorneys (b's on wheels with massive chips on their shoulders). No possibility for upward growth. Time clock punch in and out; long time staffers placed at exit doors to monitor and report on comings and goings. It's like a work camp. The office door spins in and out so much it could cool the office.
