Working in law enforcement presents challenges

Most of the people who work there are decent individuals with no small town connections.

You have to deal with employees who are related to supervisors and will never get fired no matter what they do. They lie, steal, spread rumors for each other, and try to get people fired who speak out against them or even just make them look bad by working hard. The leadership is nonexistent, in fact my captain was only at work 2 days a week on average and was too preoccupied with his extensive family and second job. Internal affairs is flooded with bureaucracy and will only speak to supervisors when there is an issue. If you don't have any connections within the department, be prepared to put up with the unstable individuals brought in by nepotism or don't plan on making it a career.
