Pros
The staff at the UG are predominantly very accommodating and good to work with. Many of the professors in particular clearly care more about making students who assist them in their research (as I did) feel appreciated on a human level as opposed to viewing them as a cog in the machine or someone to use for their own career ends.
Kontras
The bureaucracy can be a bit difficult at times, but in my view that is something common to virtually all institutions. I ultimately always found/find a way to resolve these types of issues. The crucial thing is taking the appropriate initiative. Additionally, though I laud the very positive experiences I have had with the professor whom I worked under, there are of course always bad apples in any academic setting. Generally speaking, however, a professor will only approach you as a potential assistant if you get along with them on an interpersonal level, and it is always up to the student to decline the offer if they feel that they would rather not work under/for a particular person.
