Pros

Coworkers are nice and approachable; there's good job variety (working on many types of projects); the work is meaningful because you're helping to create educational resources for schools and libraries; flexibility with working from home (and allowing work-from-home days); good open office layout

Kontras

Many people have a high project workload, which creates a lot of stress and can result in errors in work. There's also a lot of pressure to measure up to other high-functioning coworkers. The pay is not great for the amount of work that we do. Also, there aren't many advancement opportunities in the company.

Pros

Nice people, interesting book topics.

Kontras

Part of their sales pitch was their company culture and treating employees like family, but this was quickly obviously not true. Organization and communication were a mess, nearly a third of company either left or was laid off during my stay, including both of my supervisors and they didn't have a creative director until my last day on the job. I didn't receive training on their process, people were eager to report my mistakes to management, and ultimately I was let go for trying to fix a mistake I made earlier in a book due to "not following the proper workflow" which they, again, did not instruct me on. They also asked me to take on video editing tasks immediately which was something they had asked about in the interview, which also interrupted my ability to learn how to do my job. Additionally there are no upward or career advancement options, it's a family company and you're not part of the family.
