Pros

There are so many great things about Raybeam that it’s hard to know where to start. It’s a surprisingly flat company, no layers of bureaucracy or management between you and leadership. Probably because of that flatness it’s an interesting place where people with passion for particular tools or technologies can make real changes to how the company grows. Raybeam is extremely diverse, but in a way that appeared organic and not mandated by HR. HR by the way is fantastic, Julie and Michelle were lovely to work with. Everyone I worked with was extremely knowledgeable and capable which made working there a delight. They were extremely flexible and understanding about working situations and locations during covid, and in general treated you like an adult which I found refreshing.

Kontras

Working with this many ‘effortlessly’ talented people set my imposter syndrome off somewhat regularly. While the overall PTO/Holiday policy was very generous the floating holidays were restricted to recognized holidays, which makes sense but seems unnecessary. Being able to take Juneteenth, Choseuk or Eid al-Fitr off as a holiday instead of just regular PTO would be nice.

Pros

+ The company culture is great; we have annual retreats, company outings, a pool table, an arcade machine, company lunch, etc. The people I work with all take interest in what they're working on and helping the team do well. + The CEO, DongSoo, is the hardest worker in the office and a genuinely good guy. He seems to pursue well-thought-out, intimate client engagements that focus on building relationships that leave both the client and Raybeam engineers in a better place than when the project began. + The projects tend to be short (up to several year) engagements, allowing Raybeam engineers to start from scratch with new technologies every so often. Both East and West coast project managers (Wes and DongSoo) are very responsive when an engineer is unhappy with their current workload/project. + Raybeam Engineers are Consultants, meaning we work directly with clients to gather requirements, build expectations, and deliver on those expectations. That gives us a lot of agency in what we do, and a lot of exposure to different companies, work styles, and people. + While the company structure is flat, Raybeam has been extremely generous with year end bonuses and raises to keep up with employee experience.

Kontras

- Because it's consulting, it's dynamic work. Potential applicants should consider that they'll be put in front of clients with changing requirements and have to manage those expectations. The project managers would never throw someone off the deep end, but after a few months expect to be able to face a client. - For people looking to advance up a corporate ladder, there isn't one here. You will, however, gain exposure with clients at high profile tech companies.
