Pt are very complex, you will learn a lot working here because you see so much that is not seen on a regular med surge floor.

There is not much support from HR or managers. The managers and the educators do not do anything to help everyone be on the same page. They do not have an email system so if there is something new going on you either have to go find it on a flyer on the floor thats if you have time to do that or you hear word of mouth. The unit secretary run the floor and half of them think they are in control. the PCTs act as if they are the bosses of the RNs and get away with that attutude they will do things when they want and there are some that will just ignore the call lights and the RN basically is doing everything even though the pct is on her 4th break and walking around on her phone. The RNs do not really have a say. you are not able to delegate because people do not know their duties and that Rns are supposed to delegate and PCTs are supposed to report back to the RN. If you try to do it they look at you as if you are crazy. Plus charting is crazy some people do not chart. Your own PCT will not chart I&Os at all and gets away with it. Supervisors do not go on the floor unless you call them and act as if they are doing you the favor when you call them for something that they are only allowed to do. The house doctors are the worse if you call them for anything they act as if you are bothering them. They will make you feel stupid and barely will do rounds on the patients. They act as if they do not get paid and for you to call them is a burden. It is the worst feeling to know that calling them is so hard and even though you want to help your patient they make you feel bad for calling them. The president is never around. during orientation he gives this great speech about how he will answer call lights and blah blah blah. Not once has he ever walked the floor during my shift or ever heard from him or the educators again. They will come around and announce a education seminar minutes before it happens and expect people will come to the seminar when it is only at a time that is convenient for the educators. People are not on the same page because management is basically busy gossiping about others and not doing what they are supposed to be doing.
