Pros
Industry leading compensation, benefits, and work/life balance initiatives have consistently placed RBC as one of the best companies in Canada, if not the world, to work at. Time and time again, I've seen great things from RBC in terms of their human resources management. Due to the large size of the organization, career opportunities and paths are limitless and no opportunity is denied to the right candidate. The corporate culture is supportive of self-improvement and those who wish to succeed will, while those who wish to work in the same job for a long period of time can also do so.
Kontras
While being at a large company means that there are many more opportunities for advancement, it can also mean that at times, certain jobs can be very narrowly focussed. This can be a challenge for people who like variety, however, it does create an opportunity to hone certain expertises. Also, being a large company, creativity and independence can be somewhat stifled. Good, progressive ideas can become lost in the mass entanglement of corporate politics. This, however, is not a negative atmosphere, just one with competing priorities. There is no air of maliciousness whatsoever to this fact of reality. There is also a disconnect between head office and the RBC branch network which I feel can at times limit career opportunities for people working in the branch network.
