Pros

I was able to find other professional opportunities in New York.

"Easy does it" is often the recommended approach when you start a new job and are unsure about it. Why not give it a try? Maybe you will find out the managers are nice? Perhaps things will get better over time as you get settled into your role. Not at RAREculture. The red flags should have been raised for me when they didn't use their actual name on their job posting, but an alias. In the end, I received an offer to work as a designer after a few phone interviews and a design challenge (which later turned out to have been used for a client pitch, though I wasn't informed or compensated for it). Evidently, after working at the company for a few months, the workplace and culture can be described as toxic due to micro-management, lack of transparency, no clear briefs for the given projects, and very poor communication skills. My colleagues and I worked from the founder's apartment in one of the rooms, which was not big enough to accommodate a Fall-sized bed. Besides having to deal with unrealistic deadlines, we worked on projects that involved working with toxic foams from the paint. I brought out the lack of appropriate gear and facilities to work safely with this material, and I was told that they are looking into getting a studio, but that never happened. If you're interested in applying for this job, my best recommendation is to NOT. This is an environment that does not foster professional and creative growth.

Pros

It's a super small company , so everyone gets along and really cares about each other. Most of the staff has been there through out the whole pandemic, so being together and succeeding through those hard times has created a great and unique bond between upper management and staff. The work that we get to do is incredibly cool. Being able to see project after project come to fruition is always so inspiring. We get to be as creative as possible in so many different ways, be it creating artwork, curating artwork or coming up with big art-based ideas for all types of clients. No day is the same and every day brings new opportunities to tackle. For a company that has little to zero traditional marketing, we are never without business and always busy. The job starts at 10 am and ends at 6pm and it provides a lot of time to have a good life balance. We all work hard ,we don't stop until the work is done but we also feel comfortable knowing that we can prioritize our families and take time off if we need it! It's a relaxed and familial vibe. We love to laugh and support each other. It's truly a great place for someone who is a self starter, wants to take ownership and grow in their career with a company, as we are growing every day.

Kontras

Sometimes working with our manufacturers in different countries can be frustrating as they don't always adhere to timelines set by our clients.
