Pros

Note: this review was originally posted on Jan 8, but then flagged and removed.* Excellent PTO options. The pay may also be competitive in some departments compared to other employers. Also having Paycom on your resume looks really good in the state of Oklahoma, but I’m not sure how “pro” that is - sometimes it just means you’re *really* good at masking trauma.

Kontras

Did you ever play “pick up stix” as a kid? Working here is kind of like that. Or maybe Jenga. Both of which I’m sure are available in the cafe to play during a break you’re allowed to take but upon your return get questioned why you “needed it”. 1:1s are supposed to be for the employee to talk about questions or concerns with their leader and should only last 15 minutes. However for some departments each meeting is documented by the TL and used as kindling for a rainy day. Be careful what you say or divulge, as none of it is for you. It’s for them. And when I say them, it’s anyone that’s not you. Even your other team members will find out what you said in a 1:1. It’s really fun. At-will employment laws are a joke. The new year began with what sounds like layoffs but were actually mass firings that appear to be budget related (or maybe age related depending on how you look at it). People were terminated the first week of the new year for “performance issues” while many having zero pips or official documentation acknowledged by the employee that they had performance issues to fix, but made the most in their department, all budgets were being scrutinized in the weeks and months prior. Who else smells Eddie’s and cafeteria sushi here? This reduction in the “winning” paycom workforce left the remaining employees nervous and frankly terrified that they are next, or are now in a position to NOT use that amazing PTO due to leaving their respective department too short-staffed (again, not their fault). paycom loves to spout off about how much they value their employees, but then the new year comes and suddenly it’s easier to find a parking spot for those that survived this round. The people that were fired this past week were hard workers - worked their butts off and were extremely valuable to paycom. They lived and breathed the good word of the Paycom gospel - and now they’re battling it out for interviews and hoping their unemployment claims are approved, all while thinking they did something wrong to deserve this. You have great (former) employees that BLED GREEN FOR YOU wondering how they failed you. Guess what - they didn’t. YOU. FAILED. THEM. The kicker? Everyone that was let go last week most likely did the jobs of 2 or more people already, meaning the folks that are left will be doing the work of 3 or 4 people, all while training the “new college grads” that come in for a “great starting pay being fresh out of college”. I don’t know where this ship is going, but I feel like someone should be shouting “iceberg ahead”.

Pros

You can make a lot of money if you are in the right territory and have a good client base that hasn’t been oversold by previous AMs. The training is very good and you will make good friends! The people they hire are smart and fun to be around

Kontras

If there has been high turnover in your territory it will be hard to sell as the clients have products that have not been properly implemented and are likely gun shy to purchase. It will also depend how “over promised/under delivered” their experience with new business is. The work/life balance can, and probably will, become very toxic. You are on the road constantly if you have a travel heavy territory which makes it difficult to get admin work done during business hours. You will be working before and/or after work - probably on the weekends as well. Ask for transparency in your territory assignment. You want to know how far your furthest client is as you will have to go see them in person at some point

This is a performance-driven role with high expectations, and team members are given clear direction and the tools to succeed. Those who consistently deliver see meaningful rewards for the work they put in. Please share further feedback with your leader.
