Pros
So basically, in the late 90s, this 20-something with a cowboy attitude started a tech company in Oklahoma – a tech company that provided online payroll services. It was revolutionary. He even taught most of his early clients how to internet. I AM SO GLAD HE DID. Today, Paycom is a large Oklahoma employer that offers more than 25 different products (including payroll) that makes the life of HR pros, nationwide, easier and more strategic. I have been a member of the Oklahoma workforce for almost 15 years, in both for- and non-profit and I can easily say that working for Paycom is a dream. This company is stable and “oil and gas proof” which is a blessing, being in Oklahoma. I have healthy work-life integration, great pay, great management and hands down the BEST co-workers ever. I am also impressed with the compassion and drive that the majority of Paycom’s chiefs, VPs and directors exhibit on a daily basis. Paycom is growing and constantly hiring because the stellar products and services, and when utilized correctly, they are impactful to each client’s success.
Kontras
The larger Paycom becomes, the easier it is for culture to break down. It seems that HR is spending a lot of money on monthly cheap, branded items and calling it employee engagement. Instead, spend some of that money on teaching your HR staff about what employee engagement really means. Take the time to understand how to engage and manage this new demographic. T-shirts and toys are not going to cut it.
