Pros

Good work/life balance. There is a team that will help make outbound prospecting to supplement what you do on your own. There is also a designated service rep model which is a good selling point and competitive advantage.

Kontras

The comp plan for Major Markets is the same regardless of where you live throughout the country. (no change for cost of living in Bay Area where avg. price of homes and cost of living is double or triple that of other areas of the country) The way they track revenue has changed significantly over the last few years but the comp plan never changed to reflect the new way that revenue is recognized, making it virtually impossible to make the advertised $120k+ in this position. At plan, this position literally plays $88-90k. There are a few accelerators you can reach but the first one doesn't kick in until you far exceed quota. The technology improvements that were supposed to be live within 6 months of my hire, are still likely 2 years away from being a functional tool to sell to businesses with 50+ employees. In effect, you are selling technology that is about 8+ years old. If you get an appointment with a former client who is willing to see what has changed, you literally are showing them the same exact technology they had when they left 5 years ago.

Pros

Paychex is a great company to work for. I’ve held multiple roles over 20+ years. There are always ups and downs, but for every position, manager, decision I disagree with, there are ten others that are outstanding.

Kontras

It’s a large company with many opportunities to grow, but smaller companies may offer higher compensation.

Pros

Nothing is good about working here.

Kontras

Nobody is ever held accountable. Pay is awful. Benefits were all moved out of state, so all providers in the area are all out of network. Jobs are being moved to India. The list goes on. Sales is the absolute favorite department in the entire company. Nothing sales can do is ever wrong, even when they give false information to clients and then the support team has to deal with the fallback. Don't get me started on Payroll.... the entire department has gone to the wind. I honestly don't know how this company ever did good with payroll services. The #1 complaint i got from every single client I interacted with was they could never get ahold of their Payroll Specialist. The company's response to this was to start making other departments learn payroll duties. This year they moved insurance benefits to a plan out of Arkansas, which made every provider I was already seeing become out of network. I had my first major medical scare of my adulthood and ended up paying a few grand out of pocket because U of R was out of network. Promotions are non existent. They make you apply and interview for any role you want to move into. There is nothing good about working here, and i would advise anyone to stay away from them.
