Pros
Great experience for any PhD student who wants to know how data science is (or should be!) done in industry. Everyone is very knowledgeable, and willing to help on any problem, no matter how small the issue may be. From the first day I was given responsibility over my own projects, and got a taste of the full spectrum from model development, training, productionization to user interface and design features. As a remote internship due to Covid, everyone made an extra effort to include me in activities, and remote teambuilding games really helped to feel part of the team. The management team were great and always checking to make sure you were ok without making you feel like you were being micromanaged. Additionally, the projects were varied and interesting, and got good exposure to using/developing cutting edge machine learning models that would never have been possible as part of the PhD programme. Everyone is constantly learning, and sharing their skills to the rest of the team, whether that be improved coding practice, new packages/ methods, best security practice or presentations on current projects. Plus the daily stand ups help keep everyone up to date with what each person is working on.
Kontras
Occasional overtime needed for evening meetings but working hours are flexible
