Pros

Interesting model. Fun to work with kids.

Kontras

Working with at-risk youth is hard and serious work. The employees need better training and better pay. Noone is benefiting in most situations. Management with promote people to the office that have little to no experience.

Pros

Supportive staff, great kids, interesting and ongoing paid training.

Kontras

Teachers only work a few hours a week, which is great if you're a student but hard if you don't have supplemental income.

Pros

Due to the flexibility and programming hours, this role was suited for students or anyone that had other commitments. The organization is a non-profit and it's main focus was to provide quality after-school technology based programming to youth in at-risk communities. At the end of the day, everyone working for OpenWorld Learning was there to make a difference and impact in the community.

Kontras

Because the organization is a non-profit, funding was based on donor relationships and grants. This did not allow for staff to move into leadership positions as easily. Staff had a high turnover rate because of limited funding and the inability to provide compensation for highly dedicated staff.
