Pros
Some of the pros of working at Labcorp include: healthcare benefits, the amount of paid time off given, and a flexible schedule. There is a large deductible on the healthcare plan but if u do all the surveys & provide information about your health online then they will deposit $ in a HSA acct which u can use toward meeting it, or for copays. It is a bit annoying, of course most people would perfer no or a low deductible, but as those good health insurance plans are becoming harder to come by I rated it a 4, since u can get out of paying it. The paid time off is generous for new employees. U start out with 144 hours of paid time off per year (18 days total, or 3 weeks & 3 days). It is not designated as vacation or sick time and u can use it for either reason. Then u also have maybe 7 or 8 paid holidays, so if u start at the beginning of a year u will get over one month total paid time off as a new employee. I have never had that much time off at a job, new or otherwise. There is an opportunity to be a bit flexible in your schedule. This office is currently only open on 1st shift so I don't mean flexible in that manner. Just that if u need to miss work for up to 4 hours u can make the time up through the week (or Saturday) as long as the OT is available. (and in usually was)

Some of the cons at LabCorp are mandatory OT requirements, low pay (unless u know the right person), few pay increases, and grudges held by some in management positions. In this billing facility OT is demanded. In your interview they will say you will have to work occasional OT. It's more like all the time. U will be required to work on Saturdays, so if u have kids in activities it may be difficult for you. The starting pay offered for this position is low. If u have some sort of connection inside the company u can use that to get a higher offer. There is not a set starting salary though, and everyone starts at different levels, even for the same position. It's very strange. I suggest u haggle the highest rate u can from them and u may come away with a better hourly rate than others in your training class. There is only one opportunity for a pay increase per year in July. I also worked at a competing lab (Spectrum Laboratory Network, now Solstas Lab Partners) and received at least 3 pay increases in one year, maybe 2 were performance based and one was a cost of living increase. There is no recognition for a job well done in this facility, that is, unless u are in training for a position, and all training staff I had contact with were great. But then once u hit the floor u can get 100% quality every week and there are no rewards for that. I even had a supervisor that was annoyed when I wanted to do rebuttals on my audits. She didn't want to do the paperwork! She said "Your quality scores are fine, u don't need a rebuttal", even though I was right and the quality dept scored my audit wrong. And I did send a lot of rebuttals, and they were almost always overturned. I just believed somebody should be doing audits on the quality dept, because they sucked, and were always scoring audits incorrectly. There were certain members of management in this facility that would hold grudges if u voiced an opinion or made a complaint. They would then make a point of trying to make things as unpleasant as possible while at work. It didn't happen to me directly, but I saw it being done, so if anything, saw it quite objectively. So be careful about that if u are looking to work there, especially if u are assigned to the Florida billing division.
