Pros
A company I was with for 5 years merged with KVC recently. I have found the benefits are much greater and more family oriented (paid parental leave, company paid short term disability, bring your dog to work day, etc). The pay scale is about the same which I believe is slightly under the average for my position and area, but the compensation may balance that out. The culture is positive and bright with supportive management, depending on location. In my location, management is supportive and empowering without being micromanaging and intrusive. Management and your team expect you to do know how to do your job and to do it well while still leaving room for growth and adaptation. The hardest part of the job is realizing the limits to the work and change you can make for the kids you grow to care for.
Kontras
Normal non-profit challenges with limited resources and a hint of the self-sacrificial culture that you get most places. The pay is a little lower than average for the area.
