Pros
I worked in Telemarketing (appointment setter) and this is what I experienced: Hourly pay Plus Commission, Sales contests, Good training, Great co-workers, Inspirational management, the chance to be creative when calling potential customers, Lots of experience being persistent, Short days on Friday
Kontras
Revolving door atmosphere. They're always hiring for telemarketing. If you can fog a mirror your in. Unfortunately 90% discover it's not for them. You're cold calling people up until 9pm who are often receiving up to 4 solar calls a day. Many claim to be on the do-not-call list and are very upset with you. It's very difficult to set an appointment. If you can stick it out you will likely get to start making "warm" calls which is a plus. The biggest "Con" is the staffing service they use for payroll services, etc. They are AWFUL to work with starting from the ridiculously un-professional receptionist. By California Law I should have been paid within 72 hours of when I quite. It's been over a week and I still don't have a paycheck. I've received one excuse after another. Will have to seek help from Labor Board however, since I was a 1099 employee, I may not receive much assistance, which I'm sure is not coincidence.
