Pros
Good students (usually) and flexible hours
Kontras
The company takes HUGE chunks of your money. It is a scam. They make you pay for your own background check, which they don’t tell you up front. They don’t take out taxes. They charge a “fee” in order for you to receive your payment!!! And students pay over double the tutor’s salary. You’d think if they were going to take half of your pay for being a staffing agency they could at least do some of these other things to help you out. Some students aren’t motivated at all They micromanage—if you hired me to tutor, let me handle it. I am a professional. But if you ever need actual support they are incompetent. They do a background check, sure, but I’ve never met these people in person. I could be anyone off the street with no teaching experience. They don’t ask for references or make you take tests like other companies to prove you know the material. You just simply say I’m comfortable tutoring “x, y, and z” and they take your word for it. You could make up an elaborate back story and really exaggerate your teaching experience to get this job and a higher pay rate. How would they know? If I were a parent, I would never allow Grade Potential into my home because it seems like you’re taking a risk with whoever might come. They don’t even meet or interview their own tutors!!
