Pros
The benefits are great. Plenty of paid holidays, vacation, health insurance premiums are good. Some potential for travel and TDY sometimes from 1 to 4 weeks per year depending on unit training calendar. The work is not hard but since you are the only one there to do it all the responsibility of starting and completing it falls on you and only you. If anything goes wrong or right its because of you so the role requires much responsibility, independence, maturity and time management.
Kontras
The position continues to evolve and more documentation is required to justify the position which is important yet tedious. If you spend 20 min trying to install something and you are sifting through a bolt bin and ultimately install and torque a bolt, it needs to be documented. You are responsible for making time at the end of the day to do all your documentation for every job performed that day.
