Pros
Finish Line truly is a great place to work, especially for those trying to get into retail management. There are ample opportunities at the store level because of a previous lack of talent, and the company now making the right moves to identify the right kind of people to promote. If you can stay organized and focused, you can still have a great work life balance while working alongside some incredible people.
Kontras
At the corporate level there is a large emphasis coming down to the stores on training and developing our people. However, that's not put into practice by Store Managers and DM's. I've seen really smart individuals leave this company because they were not given the respect they deserved. By respect I mean, that we put our lives and career futures into our DM and RVPs hands, and that kind of loyalty and trust is not often reciprocated. I know of a young man I worked with in another state who had to ask for months to get a interview to be promoted to a MIT, a position he already held, and when he finally did, his respective DM didn't respond to him for weeks. The interview was left on the promise that the process would continue to ensure his promotion. If this was an outside candidate interviewing for the same position contact would have been made and kept immediately following the interview. The company is doing the right things to seek out and recruit the right talent, but once they become a part of this team, the loyalty and dedication to every individual is very saddening. It's a great company with a good future, but they will continue to lose their smartest leaders while they continue to focus their energy on outside hires, and not building trust and loyalty from within.
