Pros

The part-time hourly pay rate is unmatched by any other industry. Quarterly bonuses are given based on the overall performance of the center. I enjoyed working with the people on the dock. You almost become a family. For the most part, management treats the employees with respect. These guys work 10-12 hour shifts every night and love it! I appreciated the open door policy as well. They allow (and even urge) employees to talk to anyone, at any time, about any issue. I never thought I would say this, but I actually looked forward to going to work every night!

Kontras

Have you ever spent time in the back of a trailer...in Texas...in June? Have you ever driven a forklift into a 30mph wind...in Jan...in the rain? This job is not for the weak-hearted. The hours are unconventional, and sometimes sporadic. I saw some pretty scary forklift accidents as well. It can be a pretty dangerous job if you are not cautious. For example, one night a road driver did not get out of his truck to see if his trailer was closed and pulled away from the dock at the exact time that a forklift was driving into the trailer. The forklift fell about 5 feet to the ground and injured an employee. Other incidents include: exploding propane tank, trailer flipping tail-over-head with a forklift (and driver) still inside, an employee hit by a truck while crossing the on-site pedestrian walkway, and plenty of employees getting their feet ran over by forklifts...

Pros

- Insurance benefits are offered to part time employees - Pay is sufficient based on being part time - Management will send some communications regarding big picture matters - There is some leniency regarding calling out of work

Kontras

- The requirement to maintain insurance is becoming more difficult - Employees are not paid the same rate simply based on tenor rather than qualifications - Management will rarely, if ever, address direct employee concerns - Leniency for calling out only seems to apply for certain employees - There is no standard of training or written expectations readily available once hired
