Poor communication from higher ups often leads to confusion for everyone else and temper tantrums from one particular individual upstairs. This person also blames people for issues that they sometimes cause, and yells, curses, and stomps around. The office is a open floor plan, which means even when you are not the target of the a tantrum and you have headphones in, you can still hear someone else getting berated. All of this adds up to a emotionally exhausting work place.
Pay is low, especially for San Francisco. Limited creativity for production, unattractive and overcrowded design layouts - oftentimes the higher ups with no design education make the call when it comes to the look of everything.
Other reviews are all correct. Negative reinforcement is used constantly, raises are few and far in between while responsibilities and expectations often increase, deadlines habitually pushed to their limits to accommodate sales and editorial, technology is antiquated, etc...
