Pros

Decent New York office location. Work life balance generally protected (take your PTO). Co-workers are motivated and driven to learn and grow. Great senior leadership (Regional Directors and up) in place to drive company forward in challenging macro environment.

Kontras

- Too many layers of middle managers (Snr Manager -> Director) - most of whom are incompetent or redundant. Some of the worst managers I have ever worked for in my entire career. Vet them thoroughly prior to joining. - Your day to day will have no stability or structure - your managers will always drop things on your plate and expect you to complete everything. This does not happen occasionally, it happens every week without fail. "Start up culture/move fast" is used as an excuse for terrible planning. - High performers are given more work, while slackers are dragged along. Management has no courage to properly manage poor performers. - No career pathways or development plans; don't expect an internal promotion. - Bonuses are not real bonuses and are not tied to any clear performance evaluation. Very biased and swayed by recency bias. - Stock price is in the dumps and will likely stay there for the foreseeable future.

Pros

People are smart. Very much a “move fast and break things” culture which can be refreshing compared to bureaucracy-heavy corporate life. I don’t agree with their values (if they have any) but what they’re doing is unquestionably working - business outlook is strong.

Kontras

Leadership will tell you there’s no ego or self-interest involved in their strategy - that is untrue. It’s an extremely heliocentric culture around the CEO. A lot of the work is based around what people they're guessing he’ll like, but there’s no alignment at the outset and something you worked on for weeks/months will be trashed after one look from him. Their mission is ostensibly about empowering agents but they are solving a problem that pretty much no one was complaining about before they started, and which just so happens to work highly in their favor in terms of market share. It’s just business but very disingenuous- don’t believe the hype that it’s altruistic somehow. Also the CEO loves to share his sob story about his single mother upbringing, but simultaneously enacts some of the most anti-parent policies you could think of.
